Motorbikes

Lots of people here ride motorbikes.

One of the people riding them lately is me. I've ridden with Ute. I've ridden with the boys and their father (four of us on the bike!) for my commute to work.

And I've even been driving one myself. Eek.

A little bit.

Not very far from home.

The traffic's kind of scary.

Here I am riding with a friend.

To see what we could see

We drove up a mountain to a very famous tourist spot where there was supposed to be a good view of the city.
The sky was hazy, though, and it looked more like the edge of the earth than an overview of the city.

Later we did sort of see what the view looked like.

And this is the famous temple on the mountain.

What else was there to see on top of the mountain?
Johannes behind the pillar.

Monks.

Chickens.

Crafty things to sell to tourists.

A giant bunch of bamboo which reminded me of asparagus.

And a lot of stairs.
(I took the elevator.)

Giant pottery

In the shopping center parking lots, there are often huge pottery selling centers. It's hot out there on the pavement and they don't seem to get much business.
Is it any wonder if this is the size of their vases? Who buys this stuff?
There's no room in my entry way for one of these.
Who are their customers? Hotels? Giant people?
And where are the flowers that fit in these things?

Frog for dinner?

If you have a hankerin' for frog legs, you can make your way to the local market and choose you out a nice fat bullfrog.
They'll even whack it on the head dead for you, and gut it, too. All for less than $3.

Good deal, eh?

This is the woman who will so nicely prepare your frog for you to take home for dinner.

The boys wanted a frog.

A live one, though.

It was amusing to the frog seller--and the others there in the 'meat department'--that anyone should want such a thing.

It was even more amusing to them a few minutes later when the frog got out and the foreigners chased it around the market.
