Patient fisherman

This man had one fishing net and no boat.  He didn't expect to catch enough to supply a restaurant or feed dozens of people.
He had his own expectations.

He stood there in the setting sun, waiting for the perfect moment to toss out his net.

For most of the time, though, he just stood there, looking out into the water.
When he did cast his net and brought it ashore, he pulled out only a few small fish which fit into the bag he wore around his waist.  Then he spent several minutes straightening and carefully folding the net to cast out again.
With all that effort for a few small fish, and with the sun quickly dropping behind the horizon, I didn’t understand his long moments of waiting.

I sat there waiting, too—with my camera ready for that perfect ‘photographic’ moment when his net was flung wide over the waves.  Why didn’t he throw out the net more frequently so that he could have more chance of catching something?
I could tell from the intense way he looked into the water and slowly moved to the right or left that he could see something in the waves that I could not.
He had more at stake than the ‘perfect photo’, and was more patient than I at waiting for just the right moment.

I suppose the fisherman’s patience reminded me of God.  How he takes a long time—by my measurement—to work out all the projects and plans he sets in motion.  He waits for the perfect moment to capture us with his beauty, grace and glory.  A net cast just right to bring us to our knees in worship.
God’s patience brings about the perfect ‘catch’, the perfect picture, the perfect moment every time.

Ah, the beach

What's better at the end of a long day's work than a walk on the beach.
Aahhh....

Desert sky

A beautiful sunset over Phoenix.  I don't get tired of them.

Papago park

There's a hole in this rock.

It's the Hole-in-the-Rock at Papago Park.

And it's a great place to go for sunset.
Though you'll have to join the crowds of others who made this short climb to watch the day's end over Phoenix.

But just look at that Arizona sky.

Sunset over Phoenix

If you go to Phoenix, you should also go to the top of a mountain and watch the sunset.
You won't be sorry you did.

South mountain

South Mountain in Phoenix is an easier mountain to "climb", because I could drive up to the top.
Shew.
I went at sunset time, to see the city lit up by the last rays of daylight.

It was just the right day to go, too, because the clouds were spectacular.

Beating the Retreat

There's an annual event in Delhi at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.  It's the closing ceremony of the Republic Day events, known as Beating the Retreat.

I have no pictures of my own because cameras--and anything else you might carry--are strictly not allowed (which is a story itself).

What I do have is a picture in my memory.
Imagine this...
The sun is setting behind Rashtrapati Bhavan with the silhouettes of the BSF soldiers and their camels standing at attention, while the chimes in the towers rang out 'Abide with me'.
It was beautiful.

Beating the Retreat is a leftover from British days.  It's a ceremony that marked the end of the day retreat of troops from the battlefield.  The Indian military today still takes great pride in making this ceremony their own, with the President as the guest of honor.

Myself, I felt like a guest of honor to be let in at all.

Maokong Gondola

The Maokong Gondola is a perfect late afternoon get away.

The "eyes of Taipei" it's called, because from way up in the gondola, going up into the mountains, you can see just how far the city spreads out.

And you can see just how tall Taipei 101 stands as it towers above the city line and mountains.
I suggest the Crystal cabins--those are the ones with clear glass bottoms, allowing you to see the jungle as you float over it.

As I said, it's perfect.
Go up in the mountains, drink tea, enjoy the view as you talk with friends, and watch the sun set over Taiwan.

Shimla, the pretty city on a hill

Just like the British used to do, I escaped the heat of the plains and went up into the mountain hill station of Shimla.
What nice weather.

What beautiful views.
What fresh air and cool breezes.
Shimla is a lovely, little corner of India.

Sky

If ever I mention missing the sky, this is what I'm talking about.
Better than any fireworks or light display.

The cruise with views

One of the best things about the houseboat, is that all I had to do was sit there and the sights and pictures came to me--how nice is that?

In the backwaters, you get to see a lot of things.
I made a list:

Cows
Buffalo
Birds
Backyards
Laundry
Construction
Trucks
Store fronts
Pretty painted houses
Rice fields
Floating plants
Palm trees
Bananas
Fishermen
Reflections
Sunsets
