Elephant sighting

Elephants.
Walking along the road.
Like they belong there.
I never tire of seeing it.

Animals in the road II: Elephants

And now for part two of my series on Jaipur's animal traffic:  Elephants.
Who could get tired of taking pictures of them on the road?
Really, it's exciting every time to see them lumbering along with the buses and motorcycles, carts and bicycles.
And most of them have "detailing" just like the rest of the vehicles.

Nope, I just don't get tired of seeing them.

Elephantine wood carving

The floating market tour includes a stop at the woodcarvers'. Dozens of craftsmen sitting around carving and chiseling.

Elephant carving seems to be a specialty.
This is some detailed carving.

The wrinkly, textured skin feels real.

I mean, just look at that ear:
that's skill.

The contrasts are great

What is that between the buses, auto rickshaws, and cars?
Yes, it's an elephant and his mahout.
What a city of contrasts Delhi is.
On the drive across the city with some friends, we spotted the elephant, and in another part of the city there were families gathered in the grassy areas to enjoy the evening cool.
It was a very different atmosphere once we reached our destination, a fancy hotel where we partook of some coffee and tea and mixed with the rich and privileged.
The halls and corridors were lined with old paintings, drawings, lamps, statues and fountains.
We enjoyed our rare, expensive treat and then it was back to the real world of Delhi, its dust, noise and humanity.

A pretty pool

A friend and I heard that there was a nice quiet place to go swimming at a hotel in the city. We decided it was a good Saturday afternoon thing to try.
It was true. The pool was big and blue and the surrounding gardens were pretty and quiet.
There were even elephants.
Before we left, we tried the outdoor cafe, but that didn't prove to be a good idea. We were attacked my swarms of mosquitoes. I had to run with the last of my french fries in my hand and pay our bill from a safe distance away.
Besides the ending, it was a nice, relaxing afternoon.

Elephant parking?

Is this where you park your elephant?

We didn't have one.

We stopped here for a quick look at a tea plantation. There wasn't much to see.
